IPH is developing an autonomously flying indoor drone in the AIMS 5.0 research project as one of 20 application examples for the industry of the future. The project is funded by the EU and involves 53 research and industry partners from twelve countries.

Planning a factory is a major challenge, especially for small and medium-sized manufacturing companies that have little experience. We explain how factory planning projects work and which digital tools simplify and accelerate planning.

How ergonomic is my workplace? Scientists from Hanover have developed evaluation software that can answer this question quickly and objectively. The digital ergonomics evaluator is particularly helpful for small and medium-sized companies: In the future, they will be able to carry out ergonomics assessments without much effort to protect their assembly workers from back and knee pain, tendonitis or similar problems.

Awkward bending, lifting heavy items, working overhead: Such movements may cause permanent health problems. As a preventive measure, researchers of IPH and IFA developed an ergonomics assessment tool for assembly workplaces: 3D cameras capture unhealthy movements automatically.

Manufacturing individual products at almost the prices of mass products – using 3D printers. The Lower Saxony Center for Additive Manufacturing offers small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) free-of-charge support for the introduction of the new technology.

Men and machines will soon be working side by side. Researchers at IPH contribute to this trend: They have developed a driverless forklift truck which understands human language and gestures.

Industry 4.0, logistics, autonomous transportation, AGV

A bus rebuilt as factory is presently touring across Lower Saxony and Bremen. The goal: getting small enterprises informed on Industry 4.0. The free roadshows are organized by "Mit uns digital!". Until the end of 2017, there will be another eleven tours.

Researchers at the Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover (IPH) have developed a software programme for an objective evaluation of factory layouts. With this tool, you can select your optimum layout numerically instead of following your gut instincts.

Online monitoring of production processes, digital factory planning, additive manufacturing – "Mit uns digital!" offers these workshops for free to specialists and executives of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). The digitalization campaign is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Germany.

In the future, common-rails can be produced with significantly less material - thanks to a new forging process, which was developed by the IPH in cooperation with partners from all over Europe. Using cross wedge rolling (CWR) as a preforming step with a following final forging step the part can be produced with significantly less flash than before. Especially for the demands of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), IPH designed a very compact CWR machine for flat-dies that pays off even for small batches. It is the first machine of its kind which will be used under industrial conditions: A Turkish forging company wants to manufacture preforms for hip implants.

Thousands of wind turbines need to be dismantled and replaced in the next years. The owners of the wind parks have to pay millions to handle this. How you can dismantle quickly, at a low price and ecologically friendly, is part of a research project of the Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover (IPH). The huge dismantling wave will start in the next years.

Free information around the topic Industry 4.0 is offered by “Mit uns digital! Das Zentrum für Niedersachsen und Bremen“ (literally translated as: Go digital with the Centre for Lower Saxony and Bremen!). The experts provide trainings for specialists and executive managers and support them when implementing their digitalization projects.

IPH offers independent testing of conveyor belt idlers. For this purpose we dispose of measurement technology and modern test rigs. We provide the determination of size and weight of idlers (DIN 22112), running resistance (DIN 22112), concentricity deviation (DIN 22112), axial relocatability (DIN 22112), breakaway mass (SAB 1313) and balancing quality (DIN ISO 1940).

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy appointed five centres to help support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the development and adoption of Industry 4.0 know-how. The joint proposal of PZH and IPH is the one which will be put into practice first. What is the benefit for craft and SMEs?

More and more people want to live in the cities. Space is getting scarce – not only living space but space for offices, streets, parking, railways and stations. Will urban infrastructure still be sufficient in the future? And how can we use urban space as efficiently as possible?

material flow simulation, traffic

Will the freight depot still be large enough in ten years – or is it necessary to built new rails? An austrian company wanted an answer to this question – and IPH was able to help with a detailed material flow simulation.
